 2001 PT engine OVERHEATING
« Thread Started on Jan 26, 2006, 1:21pm »

???
I'm new to AZ, but have owned my PT since Jan'01. Recently en route home to Williams from Flagstaff, the Cruzer OVERHEATED; no gage in the red, not TEMP-WARNING Indicator. Noticed a slight increase [less than half division on gage] in temp, but since I was on and up hill grade, took no action. Next thing I know the OIL WARNING INDICATOR lit up, and I shut her down! After getting towed to a repair shop, and diagnosing the fault, came to find out the head gasket had blown, dumping the coolant, warping the head and distorting the block/head mating surface. The head was unrepairable, and had to be replaced.
By the way, she has less than 11,000 ORIGINAL MILES!!
Has anyone heard of similar cases?
Do I have any recourse with the folks at Chrysler?
I'm now at the place where I have to replace the entire engine, since the block is now out of tolerance!

I seriously doubt it. Most of the time overheating is negligence on the part of the owner. I would try talking with a Chrysler rep.

PS: Have you heard about Cruisermania 3??
here is the website.

A few years back I was driving with other cruisers, an 2001 suddenly overheated while stuck in traffic. We managed to find a DC dealer once the engine cooled down. It turned the Rad cap was shot or lost its seal and the coolant was lost. I believe that this person also had gasket issues later with the same cruiser.
